26.08.2008 | NVIDIA NVISION 08 Pre-Show Coverage  Autor:

This demo shows off the new stereoscopic 3D hardware and software that has never been shown publicly before. You can play some of the hottest new games with new 3D glasses that are sycn'd with brand new Mitsubishi and View Sonic LCD displays. We took a second to try out GRID and found it to be really fun and the 3D glasses worked great and were much nicer than ones we have seen over the past year..."

24.08.2008 | Silver Power Gorilla SP-SS400 400 Watt Netzteil  Autor:

24.08.2008 | Razer Piranha Gaming Headset   Autor:
"Everyone that is a gamer knows that having the freedom to game whenever you want is severely limited to who you are living with or next to. Other than some special situations, both will actively object to you disemboweling your adversary with a gattlin gun at 3am in the morning with you 5.1 speaker system at gaming volume. Because of that simple problem, gamers rely on a good set of gaming headphones to span those times where our gaming audio is not appreciated by others."

24.08.2008 | IDF: Inside Nehalem  Autor:
Nehalem is the codename for Intel's next generation Core microarchitecture--which has recently been given the official processor family name of "Core i7." Nehalem was one of the big topics of discussion at IDF--and not just because it represents the next generation of Intel's processors, but also because the clock is winding down quickly on when the chip will make its official, public debut. An official date has not been given yet, but Intel is promising that we'll see Nehalem systems for sale sometime in Q4 of this year. Intel claims that Nehalem represents the biggest platform architecture change to date. This might be true, but it is not a grounds-up, completely new architecture design. We've got the full scoop from IDF right here...

24.08.2008 | Zepto Notus A12 Subnotebook   Autor:

23.08.2008 | Intel E8600 Core 2 Duo Processor  Autor:
"6GHz was easily attainable with the E8600 having an ungodly low 1.84vcore and I was able to bench between 6100MHz and 6200MHz depending on the benchmark. Consumers with single-stage phase change systems should be able to easily hit speeds of 5200Mhz to 5500MHz as I was booting at 5500MHz around -40 Celsius with ease. This is where the E0 stepping really shines, past 5GHz it just tears everything else to shreds and makes it look easy...

22.08.2008 | Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB  Autor:

22.08.2008 | Cooler Master UCP 700W Power Supply  Autor:
"For many years, the folks at Cooler Master have been in the business of creating aftermarket products for the DIY (Do It Yourself) crowd. Having begun as an OEM cooling manufacturer, they realized that more and more of us were very interested in making our own systems. After all, we can build to suit our own needs and save some money in the process. More recently, they have delved into the performance segment of the market with offerings of power supplies, cooling and enclosures. Today's article will be covering one of their newer releases, the UCP series of power supply. UCP is an acronym for Ultimate Circuit Protection and the concept is to produce a power supply designed to meet the demands of the enthusiast crowd while offering an efficient design that will last for years to come."

22.08.2008 | Palit Radeon HD 4850 Sonic Graphics Card  Autor:
"Now that the HD 4850 has been hanging around for a bit, we’re beginning to see more and more companies jump on the aftermarket bandwagon. The latest company to do this is Palit, bringing the highly popular HD 4850 to the also highly popular Sonic line. The HD 4850 has had so much going for it from the word go; its aggressive pricing and excellent performance gave users everything they wanted. It wasn’t all rosy, though; while the use of a single slot cooler was handy, it caused the card to run extremely hot."

22.08.2008 | Asus P6T-Deluxe X58 Nehalem Motherboard Presentation  Autor:

22.08.2008 | DIY Case Mods - Suitcase turned into PC  Autor:
"Up on the bench today we have a special DIY workshop tutorial in building your own LAN party case on a budget. We take an ordinary cheap flight case and mount a full PC inside so you can truck it to and from the party with ease. With the case closed up and ugly-lid hidden away, we see that this unit doesn’t look half bad from the outside! - With no more weight than the components inside, this unit is easy enough to carry around to and from LAN parties. And I’m about to do just that..."

21.08.2008 | IDF Day 2: Eric Kim: "We Love TV"  Autor:
Eric Kim really loves TV. If he ever decides to step down as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Digital Home Group, he might have a future as a game show host. At least he had fun channeling one as he donned a bright red jacket and asked panelists some media-based trivia questions to prove a point during his keynote address at IDF...

21.08.2008 | ASUS Silent Knight II CPU Cooler  Autor:
"We've reviewed quite a few Mid-End coolers from ASUS, which almost always had decent technical properties. But the company also has a thoroughly developed High-End series. And the first such product to be reviewed now is Silent Knight II -- a promising premium cooler that offers an interesting combination of advanced design and attractive exterior."

21.08.2008 | WaKü-Special: Schlauchdurchmesser  Autor:

21.08.2008 | BFG ES800 Power Supply   Autor:
"BFG has a great power suppy here - not only does it look good, but it does it with performing style. For the duration of the testing, and the subsequent gaming session afterwards, performance remained solid while silence was in full effect. I found no issues with any of the cabling, or the installation of the unit - that was the fault of the unit. Overall, I would have to say that if you're in the market for a PSU at this price point ($219), BFG's ES800 is an excellent choice. While it's lack of support for Tri-SLI is definitely disappointing, it's ability to take a system with two 4870x2 or 9800GX2 cards is admirable."

21.08.2008 | Back to School 2008: Techie Toys for Campus Ballers  Autor:
Well, not everyone is on a budget. Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths (or Daddy’s Credit Card). Others happened to win the lottery. Whatever the case, there is a group of students with more money than they know what to do with. That’s where this back to school buyer’s guide comes into play. Got money to blow? Ballin’ like Lil Wayne? Let me show you where you can spend that cash.

21.08.2008 | IDF Day 2: Anand Chandrasekher: "MIDs: Platform for Innovation"  Autor:
Day two of IDF kicked off with a cheesy, classic Star Trek opening-credits rip-off that concluded with the statement: "The Internet, to boldly go where it has never gone before--in your pocket." Then it was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Ultra Mobility Group, Anand Chandrasekher's turn to present his keynote on the state of today's and tomorrow's MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices). We've got the full scoop from the keynote posted right here...

21.08.2008 | ATI Catalyst 8.8 Analysis - XP & Vista  Autor:
"With the drivers coming in nice and early this month, I’ve been able to get stuck into the testing to see what the latest driver incarnation from AMD offer us. As usual, before we get stuck into the actual results let’s see what kind of promises AMD have made for us this time around. With new cards out and the year coming to an end extremely fast, it’s time to ramp up the performance numbers so we can all sit back and enjoy a high FPS Christmas with all those new games coming out."

20.08.2008 | NVIDIA nForce 700a, GeForce 8000 Chipsets  Autor:
"The idea to integrate a graphics core into all chipsets looks quite natural for NVIDIA, which strategical task has always been to promote its own graphics solutions in its chipsets. On the other hand, users start to pay attention to performance of these graphics cores even when they wouldn't have cared in other cases."

20.08.2008 | IDF Day 1: Pat Gelsinger Keynote: Embedded + Dynamic + Visual  Autor:
While Craig Barrett delivered a rather non-technical, but socially-charged keynote earlier in the day at IDF, Pat Gelsinger's (Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Enterprise Group) keynote address by contrast was all about the tech. We've got all of the details of Gelsinger's keynote which includes news on Nehalem and Larrabee posted right here:

20.08.2008 | ASUS GeForce EN9600GT Matrix Graphics Card  Autor:
"Just when we thought we would no longer receive any more 9600 GTs because we figured we’d reviewed just about every single one on the market, ASUS has decided to run around and release a new one. The particular card we’re looking at today is part of the Republic of Gamers collection, which is something we tend to see more in the motherboard department. It makes a lot of sense, though, that ASUS are going to expand this popular naming scheme out to more than just motherboards. This new card comes to us as the EN9600GT Matrix. Matrix is also something we haven’t heard of from ASUS before, so it will be interesting to see if they’re going to start creating some new lines."

20.08.2008 | Thermaltake Armor+ MX VH8000BWS Mid Tower ATX Case  Autor:
Good things come in slightly smaller packages... Smaller than a full tower case, that is! A few weeks ago the Thermaltake Armor+ VH6000BWS full tower chassis was reviewed at Bigbruin.com, and the overall impression was quite positive. This time around we have the mid tower version, the Armor+ MX VH8000BWS, another solid case that houses all of the features of its larger kin, as well as some additional ones.

20.08.2008 | GIGABYTE shows us its X58 Extreme mobo in Taipei  Autor:
"Intel has just loosened the restrictions on what can be said and posted about the X58 Express supporting Socket 1366 Nehalem Core i7 chipset this week. And that is great for us as it allows us to report some juice bits of information to you, from here in Taipei. We visited the GIGABYTE HQ this afternoon and they had a single X58 board to show us. It is a dummy sample right now which doesn’t work (dammit – no benchmarks!) and is labeled GA-X58-Extreme but it will actually turn out to be the GA-X58-DS4, which is a cut down and cheaper version."

20.08.2008 | Fragapalooza 2008 - Canada’s Largest Gaming Event  Autor:
Well it’s been a week since Fragapalooza closed its doors, and I’ve finally managed to recover from it all. Now some of you may be unfamiliar with the name Fragapalooza, so I’m here to educate you. Fragpalooza is the largest gaming event in Canada. In four days this huge event crams in a convention centre sized BYOC area, gaming tournaments, random draws and prizes, and more caffeine then is healthy for human consumption. I’ve been a regular attendee since 2003 and the last time Futurelooks attended was at Fragapalooza 2005. I thought that it was time that I brought the event back to the Futurelooks audience.

20.08.2008 | ATEN CS1782 Dual Link DVI KVM Switch  Autor:
"The KVM, as a device isn’t all that confusing; it simply let’s you use two or more (depending on the model) computers while only needing a single Keyboard, Video (Screen) and Mouse – or KVM. Over the past 18 months, I would have liked to have ventured into the world that is the KVM, but since my upgrade to Dual-Link DVI enabled monitors, it hasn’t been possible as the DVI side of things on all KVMs only support a maximum of 1920 x 1200; until now, that is!"

20.08.2008 | IDF Day 1: Craig Barrett Keynote: "Inspiring Innovation"  Autor:
This year's IDF kicked off in typical fashion with Pat Gelsinger, Intel senior vice president and general manager, Digital Enterprise Group, taking the stage and giving an brief overview of what the event has to offer over the course of the next three days, including highlighting key speakers (the Woz on Thursday!), contributors, and sponsors. Gelsinger equated the childhood book series Where's Waldo with trying to figure out where in the world Intel chairman, Craig Barrett might be at any given moment. As to "Where in the world is Craig Barrett," the answer could easily be any one of over 30 countries, where Gelsinger suggested that Barrett has become the chief ambassador for the IT industry. Apparently, Barrett has been on every continent except Antarctica. This served as the segue to play a video the explored the themes of Barrett's keynote speech: "Inspiring Innovation." We have full coverage of Craig Barrett's keynote, complete with numerous images, available here:

20.08.2008 | IDF Spring 2008: Opening Keynote  Autor:
"The opening keynote of this year’s IDF lead by Craig Barrett was really disappointing. Usually the opening keynote summarizes new technologies Intel is developing and what we should expect to see in more details during IDF, but this time Barrett spent his time mostly criticizing US educational and health care systems"

20.08.2008 | Icy Dock 3.5 Inch Screwless External Enclosure  Autor:
" It seemed like some time ago that external storage was the oddball for people. Times have certainly changed now that internal hard drives are so large that backing up to optical media is really an impossibility. More and more external drive enclosures are coming out to provide the need, but they aren't created equal. Icy Dock's 3.5" External Screwless Hard Drive Enclosure (MB664US-1S) aims to fit the external storage needs of everyone in a convenient to use package. I believe they have achieved that. "

20.08.2008 | ASUS EAH4850 TOP vs. Sapphire Toxic 4850   Autor:

20.08.2008 | ASUS Radeon HD 4870 TOP 512MB Graphics Card  Autor:
"What’s so great about the TOP line-up from ASUS is that they don’t get a card and just add an extra 10MHz to the core and 20MHz to the memory, the TOP line-up of cards are really well overclocked cards that stand out from the competition. That latest card to carry the TOP name comes from the AMD team; the HD 4870 has quickly become a hot product for so many people thanks to the aggressive performance and even more aggressive price tag. Today we’ll be checking out how the ASUS overclocked version goes against a stock clocked offering and see if it’s worth paying the premium that the TOP cards carry to get the larger out of the box clocks."

20.08.2008 | Thermaltake DuOrb Heatpipe CPU Cooler  Autor:
Installing the Thermaltake DuOrb heatpipe CPU cooler on a motherboard with an open layout should be very simple thanks to the well thought out mounting hardware that will hold the cooler in place and will keep it from sliding around. As seen in the review, there could be issues installing the DuOrb on some motherboards.

20.08.2008 | Super Talent PICO-C Gold 8GB USB Flash Drive  Autor:
There are two things that immediately struck me about this particular USB flash drive from the folks at Super Talent. First, this thing is bloody tiny. It’s not appropriate to call it a thumb drive at all because this USB drive is actually quite a bit smaller than the average adult thumb. It’s more appropriate to call it a USB stick or something. Pinky perhaps? When the drive can be almost completely occluded by a quarter, you know that it’s ridiculously small.

20.08.2008 | TRENDnet 300Mbps Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit Router  Autor:

20.08.2008 | ATI RADEON HD 4870 X2 2x1024 MB  Autor:
"First of all, it was planned to oppose GeForce GTX 280 with CrossFire configurations based on two separate HD 4850 or HD 4870 cards. Then the company presented a dual-GPU solution on a single PCB, the RADEON HD 4870 X2. We've already published its preview with several tests. Now it's time for a sterling article with theoretical data, synthetic tests, and an expanded set of games."

20.08.2008 | AMD ATI All In Wonder HD, A Legend Returns   Autor:
When ATI was acquired by AMD a few years ago, one product that seemed to fall off of the new corporate radar was ATI's All-In-Wonder line of Graphics/TV-Tuner hybrid cards. This was an area of the market where ATI had exclusivity, yet we haven't seen a new All-In-Wonder offering since May 2006. Rest assured however, ATI has not abandoned the All-In-Wonder, they've simply been working on the next iteration of the Graphic/TV-Tuner stalwart, with their latest offering coming in the form of the ATI All-In-Wonder HD.

20.08.2008 | G.Skill DDR2-1100 CL5 4GB Kit  Autor:

20.08.2008 | GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 280 Graphics Card  Autor:
"The other day we looked at the GTX 260 from GIGABYTE. Today we’re going to be looking at the slightly more expensive GTX 280 version from them. Since launch, we haven’t really seen any companies do much with the GTX 280. While a few have come overclocked, we have found that they’ve all stuck to the reference cooling option. Today we’re going to be looking at the GTX 280 from GIGABYTE which follows the reference design down to a tee. The good news is that the price is also extremely competitive and for the most part the overclocks a lot of companies offer can be achieved by using a program like Rivatuner on your stock card."

18.08.2008 | ASUS P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 Motherboard  Autor:
"Intel has really pushed forward into the Express chipset lineup with the new 4 series being touted at what the 3 series should have been. It seems like the 3 series was just a stepping stone and the 5 series isn’t all that far away. But that’s for a totally different processor architecture. So far, we have already had the early P45-DQ6 and MSI P45 Platinum cross our paths. Today we are looking at another big wig P45 offering, namely ASUS’ P5Q Deluxe Motherboard. Featuring its EPU6 energy saver, DDR2 and a wide array of features including Express gate, ASUS hopes to topple the likes of GIGABYTE and MSI. Let’s see just how well it manages to perform."

18.08.2008 | NZXT Cryo LX Notebook Cooler   Autor:
"We've seen many laptop/notebook coolers here at VH since we started getting into reviewing mobile items awhile back. Some decent, most not so decent. Well today I have for you a new entry into the notebook cooler segment from NZXT called the Cryo LX. The beauty is definitely unique. Not just because it'll support a 17" widescreen notebook with ease, or because it sports three 120mm fans, or even because it's
